inventor_assignee crosswalk?

Hey all, 

I'm trying to construct a dataset of the inventor's employment history. Do you think it is possible to build up a crosswalk between the inventor and assignee? Is there any suggestion to do so? Thanks!

Joining tables

Our recommendation is to join rawinventor and rawassignee tables on patent_id. This will give you information for inventors and assignees prior to disambiguation. 

Of note, this relationship is not equivalent to employment because we are not sure of the relationship between all inventors and their assignees. From the data, you could see the relationship between inventors and assignees and approximate that some assignees are employers. 
If there are multiple assignees and inventors, then you will not be able to tell which inventor is tied to which assignee from our data. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Assignee and employer?

Hi PVTeam, 

Really appreciate your precious reply! I have some follow-up questions about the multiple inventor cases. 

(1) For the assignees including in PV datasets, are they all first assignees (i.e., the assignee when the inventor applied for the patent)? 

(2) Does the (initial) assignee have to be the employer of one of the inventors?

(3) In the cases with only one assignee and multiple inventors, can we guarantee that this assignee is the employer of at least one inventor? For example, the employer of the first name inventor.

History of patent's assignment?

Dear PVTeam, 

Thanks for your reply! We do notice that assignee may not be the employer of inventor. But it is possible that the initial assignee was the employer. So, are the records of patent's assignment over time available? Or the assignees in your datasets are the first assignees?

The assignees in our datasets are the first assignees. At this time we do not have patent reassignment data on our site.
