RULES OF CONDUCT
Subjects covered in the forum
Posts in the forum must be either questions about the use of PatentsView tools (visualization interface, Query Builder, Application Programming Interface, Community Site, Bulk Downloads, API Wrapper, PatentsView codebase, and other tools and algorithms available now or in future) or answers to those questions. Users who post about subjects that do not relate to the PatentsView tools will be directed to an alternative discussion forum or to another resource, if appropriate, and the question will be tagged "offtopic".
Modifications
The PatentsView team may revise and update these Rules of Conduct as necessary to clarify them or improve services.
Posting support requests
Create one thread and only one thread for each subject you need help with. You can also post comments to existing threads started by others if they cover similar problems or subjects.
Spam
Users who post forum spam will have their posts removed. If a post that is otherwise appropriate includes links considered to be spam, those links will be removed.
Images and other media
You can add images, such as a "screenshot" of your computer screen. Added images or other media must help explain a PatentsView problem or solution. Inappropriate media will be removed.
Sensitive information
Do not post any sensitive information. Moderators will remove personal information from posts to protect your privacy.
Links
Link to content rather than posting it in its entirety, unless you are the copyright holder or have permission from the copyright holder. Any content posted in violation of existing copyright will be removed at the request of the copyright holder.
Do not post direct links to executable files. Moderators may remove these links to protect users from potentially malicious downloads. (You can post a link to the webpage that contains the file download but it may also be removed if a Moderator finds that the web page content could be harmful or if the web page link is spam.)
When a user selects a link to an external website, they leave the www.PatentsView.org site and are subject to the privacy and security policies of the external website. Please note, however, that the PatentsView team:
- Does not control or guarantee the accuracy, relevance, timeliness or completeness of information contained on a linked external website;
- Does not endorse the organizations sponsoring linked websites or the views they express or the products and services they offer;
- Cannot and does not authorize the use of copyrighted materials found in linked websites; and
- Is not responsible for transmissions you may receive from external websites.
Language and conduct
Do not use obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, or excessively violent language.
Do not harass, insult, taunt, provoke, demean, or personally attack other forum members. Be friendly even if others are not.
Do not excessively "bump" a thread (i.e., post simply to get a thread to the top of the list).
Failure to comply with language and conduct rules will result in the termination of the user account and inability to post any more content and comments on the PatentsView Community Site by the user.
License and attribution
Users are free to use, share, or adapt the material for any purpose, subject to the standards of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. Attribution should be given to PatentsView for use, distribution, or derivative works.
Examples and content shared by third-parties in the Data in Action page are subject to the rules and conditions of their respective licensing agreements. The PatentsView team is unable to grant or deny permission for any materials that may be posted on its website for which the copyright is owned by a third party. Should you need copyright permission, you are solely responsible for contacting the copyright owner directly.
