Pre-Grant Applications between 2001 & 2005

Dear PV-Team,

under your Pre-Grant Publications Data Download Tables you say that “At this time, the published applications database does not contain the earliest years (2001-2005) of data or any of the disambiguation results.”

But the application dataset includes round 600.000 of applications with a filing date between 2001 and 2005. And if I match them with PatEx not all of them are granted, which could maybe explain it. So how does that fit together with your statement above?

It would be really great, if you could help me out with a short explanation!

Hi Patrick! Thank you for reaching out. We will amend the notice on the bulk download page for clarity.

At this time, the records in the published applications database for the earliest years of data (2001-2004) are incomplete and do not contain any of the disambiguation results. Pre-grant publication years are based on publication date, not filing date. Even though there are pre-grant publication applications with a filing date of 2001, PatentsView does not have 2001 published documents. Note that due to the lag in publishing (for both granted patents and pre-granted applications), the application filing date will reach back into prior years.
