why some patent onlly has document number but no patent id

Hi, 

I'm trying to merge granted_patent_crosswalk with publication_inventor both from pre-grant patent side. However, I found some ducoment number not has a patent_id. Do you know why this is the case? What kind of patent will be like this?

Hello! Some of the published applications in the pre-grant tables have not yet been granted. When a patent application is submitted, it gets a document number, and it is assigned a patent ID number after it is granted (if it is granted).
