Inventor location

Dear PatentsView Team,

Hi, I am quite interested in the inventor info provided by your dataset. May I ask how inventor's location, i.e., the variable rawlocation_id in the dataset g_inventor_not_disambiguated, is defined? More specifically, I am asking whether the location of an inventor is based on the residential address of inventor on the application data sheet, or mailing address?

Hello Yuan, 

We are not completely sure! The location we assign to inventors is based on the address printed on their patent application which may be a mailing address or a residential address depending on their preference. To our knowledge, there is no check or regulation on the address information entered on patent applications to push them toward being residential or mailing addresses.
