Impact of EGrants

Dear Patentsview Team,

I have a question about the eGrants. I saw that eGrants will become effective in April 18, 2023. One of the benefits mentioned in USPTO website is that "Streamlines the patent grant process, minimizes paper waste, and provides the opportunity to reduce pendency." I was wondering what's the pendency here referring to? Why is the pendency reduced? If applicants can search the patenting status in USPTO websites, why digitalization will help reducing pendency?

Thanks a lot!

Best,

Luman

eGrants

Hello Luman, our contact at USPTO provided us with the following response to your question:

The time between the Issue Notification and patent issuance will be shortened by approximately two weeks due to greater efficiencies in communications and processing. For more information, refer to the Federal Register Notice available through the following link: Federal Register :: USPTO Officially Transitions to Issuing Electronic Patent Grants in 2023

Thank you,
