data and API update notifications

How are consumers of the PatentsView API notfied of changes either in the data(reload, fixed data) or in the API?

DATA AND API UPDATE NOTIFICATIONS

The PatentsView team will likely be communicating data updates and modifications through GitHub beginning in 2018. We have not yet created a mechanism to do this yet, but will do so soon. If you have any suggestions regarding format, we would be happy to take them.

Thank you!

It would be valuable for your team to give users of your API an API-KEY that uniquely identifies them and some associated contact information. With this information you could run anaylytics on usage easier as well as PUSH notifications about API changes to users.

For the proposed github solution would you expect users of the api to check the github page periodically ? In other words would the github solution PUSH notifications to me(send me an email saying "new version coming next month" etc)?

An API key is a great idea. In the short term, I think that you can subscribe to a repo in GitHub and it will email you when an update is pushed. We are also looking into other options as well.

Api key considerations

Just remember that a required api key would affect people using the R package and any mobile applications.  There's a moble app in github and I have a beta in Google Play.
