In the “g_application.tsv” file, data element “patent_application_type” 01-17 implies a utility application. On the other hand, in the file “g_patent.tsv” file, data element “patent_type” signifies the “category of patent” such as “utility”, etc.

I found that for many patents with “patent_application_type” values 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16, the “patent_type” is "plant" and not “utility”. Examples of such patents are patent_id PP19273, PP18983, PP18535, PP18121, etc.

Could you please clarify how do I account for such differences between “patent_application_type” and “patent_type”?
