Hello,

I am looking at the level of innovation at organisational level. I went through the datasets but probably I'm not very good at locating the information:

Can I ask if there are any datasets here showing the type of organisation such firm or University a patent belong to?

Can I ask if there are any datasets here indicating the size of firm?

Hi Ann

The patent office does collect and PatentsView does publish data on whether an assignee of a patent is:

  • An individual, company, or government organization; and
  • Foreign or domestic


This information is encoded in the "assignee type" variable on the "g_assignee_disambiguated" and "pg_assignee_disambiguated" tables. The key for what these numeric codes represent can be found in our data dictionary here.

More specific data on kinds and sizes of company, however, are unfortunately not available from PatentsView.
