Missing 2005 patents in 'ipcr' data

Hello,

I am trying to compile information on patents from 2000-2015 and have run into a problem with the 'ipcr' dataset. I noticed that patents from that year are not in the dataset 'ipcr.' Do you know why this may be and where I can find data on industry classification for patent_id's from 2005? I am talking about specifically the patents with id numbers 6836899 through 698121

MISSING 2005 PATENTS IN 'IPCR' DATA

Hi! The PatentsView Team confirms that the database is missing patent ICPR data for 2005. We are now investigating the bug and will likely include the fix in the next database update which should be in early January.

We have pushed an update to the database (through Oct 3, 2017) but unfortunately, we did not have time to include a fix to the data issue that you discovered. It will be included in the next update scheduled for the end of Feb/early March.

Hey I am using the latest updates of the ipcr file and encountered the same problem. May I ask if this is still an outstanding issue or did you fix it already?

IPCR data field availability

Hello!

I have confirmed that the fields 'section', 'ipc_class', 'subclass', 'main_group', and 'subgroup' are available for patents from 2005 and earlier. Please note, however, that several other fields, including 'action_date', are only complete for patents issued in 2006 and later. You can check which fields are available for all years and which are available only for 2006 and later in our Data Download Dictionary. In order to view both the patent grant date and the IPC classification for patents issued 2005 and earlier, you will have to incorporate information from the 'patents' table. These tables can be joined on the field 'id' in 'patents' and the field 'patent_id' in 'ipcr'.

Hello! The patent files which were missing 2005 data were reparsed in 2018 and so this issue is resolved. However, there are some fields in the IPCR table that are not available for the year 2005 (or any year before 2006). This data is not available from USPTO, our data source. For more information about what data is available by year, please check out our data dictionary.
